Can the Internet Archive save our digital history?

   In this video, news reporter Lily Jamali visits the Internet Archive's headquarters in San Francisco, California. The Internet Archive contains a "Wayback Machine". This machine is a collection of servers run by a nonprofit organization. These servers maintain a record of all the webpages created on the internet as well as the various revisions they undergo. In the video, news reporter Jamali depicts the Wayback Machine as a utopian answer to our dystopian reality. A series of clips is shown exploring Americans' disapproval of Trump's erasure of specific online resources. The video highlights Former Air Force Pilot Jessica Peterson, who was unable to show her daughter her final flight video, as it was removed from the internet because it highlighted diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives. 

    However, the Wayback Machine still had it! The Wayback Machine logs every change to a website's URL and can even restore deleted pages. Through this archive process, Jessica Peterson was able to find her video using the Internet Archive Website. This emphasizes the importance of the Wayback Machine tremendously. It is imperative that we contribute to new media technology that conserves our history as we know it. The Internet Archive is a utopian solution because it preserves us from a society where information is erased to align with a specific narrative.
